Heat Wave

The summer of 2019 saw record heat in Alaska: the warmest day in 100 years; the most days above 70 degrees, and all-time high records set day after day in Anchorage. At one point, over 1000 wildfires were burning in the state. I wanted to make an image that said “climate change.” I walked the shoreline of Lake George for hours one August morning until I found the perfect spot: Our record heat reveals itself in the wildfire smoke, parched tundra, and unusually high number of icebergs all across the lake from Colony Glacier.
